Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!

As many of you know I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Seuss! He just had such a great outlook on life and a passion for children's literature. Though his books are most definitely aimed towards children, they bring out the kid in any adult and just put you in a really great mood!! Since we are in the middle of prepping for state tests right now, we didn't have a huge celebration for the great Doctor. My class did read "Oh, The Places You'll Go" together, and had a (surprisingly) great discussion about it's message. And we'll be having a belated birthday party on Friday with the kindergarteners. I'll leave you with an excerpt from this great book, but head on over to Ashley's blog to see the fun things her class did for Dr. Seuss today!

Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball will make you the winning-est winner of all. Fame! You’ll be famous as famous can be, with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Except when they don’t. Because, sometimes, they won’t.

I’m afraid that some times you’ll play lonely games too. Games you can’t win ‘cause you’ll play against you.

All Alone!
Whether you like it or not, Alone will be something you’ll be quite a lot.

And when you’re alone, there’s a very good chance you’ll meet things that scare you right out of your pants. There are some, down the road between hither and yon, that can scare you so much you won’t want to go on.

But on you will go though the weather be foul. On you will go though your enemies prowl. On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks howl. Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak. On and on you will hike. And I know you’ll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are.

You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)

Kid, you’ll move mountains!
So…be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ale Van Allen O’Shea, you’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!

MY HEART

An interesting post I was tagged in...

"with as much creativity as you can muster, show your heart in: a picture, a poem, a song (or piece of music), a phrase (or quote), an item of clothing, a place, and (just for fun) a Disney princess. if you want to join in, tag 6 more blogs."

A Picture

I know I'm not going to be able to choose just one so here is the first: A photo of Antonio and I on our recent trip to Florida. First of all, my heart clearly belongs at the beach. Also, it most definitely belongs to the silly kid in this picture. Of all the pictures I requested we take last week, this one shows off our relationship the best. Being ourselves: silly, young, happy, and in love. He accepts me for me, and more importantly, loves me for it too. That is something so so rare and priceless these days.

Next: My family. Mom, Dad, big brother and my two beautiful nieces. This one was taken on my brothers wedding day in October. It was a beautiful wedding and so much fun. They support me no matter what. I decided I wanted to be a teacher, even though everyone knows there is not much financial growth in that field. They told me to "Go For It" anyway. Both of my parents are proud to tell everyone they know that their kids are a teacher and a firefighter and that makes me really proud. My family is definitely different and can be extremely frustrating in so many ways but in the end, they're mine. I wouldn't be who I am today if they weren't.

Last but not least: My friends. Now, I want to make it clear that this photo is not at all representative of all of my friends, nor how I feel about them. This picture, however, shows us being us. Hanging out, laughing at nothing, immediately jumping to the sorority squat pose when a camera comes out, taking care of each other, and just enjoying each others company. I have so many pictures that could convey all of this but this post would be much longer than necessary. The friends who I'm referencing here, know it and I love, admire, and thank them more than they realize.

A Poem
"Oh! The Places You'll Go!" - Dr. Seuss (ok so it's a book. It still rhymes)

A Song

A Quote
"If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard, because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with." The Wizard of Oz

"be UNAFRAID of lifes' changing tides. each new day gives a chance to sail our ship upon new seas..."

An Item of Clothing
My bathing suit and a comfy cover up

A Place
Siesta Key, FL (any beautiful beach really... but only if my favorite people are there too)
